"Being" the Church in Brazil

In the past month, as we’ve considered what it means to “be” the church, we have highlighted a couple of our local ministries – the pantry at the Christian Service Center and Royal Family Kids’ Camp – to illustrate this concept. Today, we expand our focus beyond Granbury to the ministry of Mark and Ali Kaiser, our mission partners in Itu, Brazil.

Mark and Ali are prime examples of what “being” the church is all about. They moved to Brazil twelve years ago to assist Ali’s parents in their mission efforts in the city of Itu. They began working with the youth of the church there, and soon began a ministry of feeding the homeless at their home each week. Through this act of hospitality, they saw a need to aid recovering addicts in reentering the workforce and society in general. With generous donations of land and funds, they were able to establish a halfway house, and later an urban community garden and café/chapel, all designed to help people in need find the Lord and get their lives back on track. These structures have become places of connection and life shared between Christians and those in need, where the gospel of Christ is seen in action.

Please pray for Mark and Ali as their family grows (with the birth of their son, Liam, a few weeks ago) and their ministry expands. May we all gain a better understanding of what it means to “be” the church of Christ.

Jan Knox
